All relationships that we have are either here to support us, or teach us a lesson (or more frequently, a combination of both).
Being human, it is only natural that we crave meaningful relationships with one another, whether in our families, with friends or with a romantic partner.
Because of this craving, popular culture has twisted the Twin Flame concept into one of ultimate romance, i.e. the most perfect romantic life partner.
This is not true, because the purpose of a Twin Flame journey is really one of spirituality.
The romance and desire that one feels is an inevitable result of all the chakras merging, and the ongoing telepathy that happens 24-7, feeling each other’s emotions, bodily sensations, thoughts etc., no matter how many thousands of miles apart the twin flames are physically and even without any communications in the 3D.
However, there are also other forms of connection that can mimic a twin flame relationship. Most notably, high level soulmates and strongly karmic mates.
With high level soulmates, the energy and telepathic bond that is shared is sturdy, but rather peaceful, and the relationship will tend to be supportive most of the time.
This is in contrast to karmic mates and twin flames, where the energies being shared are rampant and wild, therefore being extremely exciting but also triggering.
With karmic mates, because of the negative karma created in past lifes, strong energetic bonds will be created between the two parties upon meeting. There will be a magnetic attraction, but also a repulsion or revulsion at the same time. And that revulsion or repulsion will become more apparent as the relationship develops further.
Because of popular culture surrounding twin flames, many then mistake this karmic connection as a twin flame connection.
This mistake is beneficial if it spurs the person(s) to become more self-aware, heal their wounds , become empowered and live a happier life.
However, this mistake is costly, if it becomes an excuse for the person to keep hanging on to what no longer serves, chasing or staying on with someone who is not for their highest good. Worse, the twin flame concept becomes justification for a person to not heal and persist in trying to bond the other person when it is clear the other person wants to move on.
It is therefore best to not label relationships . The labels are only helpful when what is happening is so paranormal that a person can feel insane without any form of understanding.
All relationships should be fully experienced as they are , by being present and living in the moment.  Knowing that no one is perfect, and there has to be reciprocity, a fair give and take . It does not serve us to be living a relationship that exists only in the ethers, because ultimately, we are humans so that we can experience what it really means to be human.
