A bit about my journey with mental health
Ten years ago, I found myself in the dark depths of depression. I struggled to get out of bed, cried every day, and was desperate to escape the darkness of my mind. Quite simply, I wished I didn’t exist. One morning, while I was trying to get ready for work, I crumpled to the floor of my bathroom and sobbed uncontrollably. I wanted to disappear. In that moment of despair, something inside me clicked, and it finally became clear that I needed to get help. I was in my doctor’s office later that day, and I began seeing a therapist a couple of weeks later. For the first time in my life, I took a step toward healing.
Ten years later, and my healing journey continues. I have anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I have done CBT, IFS, and currently EMDR. I have practiced mindfulness and yoga. I have explored Reiki and energy healing. I have shared openly about my mental health through social media, blogging, and as a co-author. I share because I know how lonely struggling with mental health can be, even when I’m surrounded by people who care about me, and I never want anyone else who struggles to feel alone.
Storytelling has played a large role in my journey, which isn’t surprising since I’m a writer and editor. It’s a powerful way to connect with others.
I will be working on a project that brings together two things I am passionate about: storytelling and women’s mental health. It is a collaboration book called She Thrives: Navigating Mental Health for the Modern Woman. If this project resonates with you and you are interested in contributing, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
