Introduction

My name is José Maria Amaral, and from an early age, I have dedicated my life to what are known as unconventional therapies (UCT). I studied International Relations at the Universidade Lusíada, pursued a Master’s degree in American Studies at the Senate of the University of London, and even worked at the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2003, I started conducting public consultations and Reiki courses, as I had already completed my relevant studies and initiations.

However, it was in 2007, in the field of Osteopathy/Chiropractic/Foot Reflexology, that I began to approach my work in a more technical yet holistic manner. I received training at the Instituto de Salud Integral Kiros in Seville, where I studied Osteopathy for four years. I also taught courses in Foot Reflexology (a course I personally wrote and registered with the IGAC – General Inspection of Cultural Activities).

In 2009, I embarked on a new training in Naturopathy at the Portuguese Institute of Naturology in Lisbon, where I learned Auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture), Phytotherapy, Iridology, and Orthomolecular Nutrition. The training culminated with the defense of my thesis in June 2014. The thesis topic was: “For the control of Hypercholesterolemia, is the allopathic or naturopathic approach more relevant? Statins and/or Red Yeast Rice?” An excerpt from the thesis was published in the Vida Sã Bulletin No.5/2015 by the Portuguese Society of Naturology, an Institution of Public Utility.

I have also completed the third year of the Homeopathy course for professionals at the International Academy of Integrative Homeopathy.

Following this period, I was invited to be a trainer at the Portuguese Institute of Naturology (IPN) in the disciplines of Orthomolecular Nutrition, Phytotherapy, Iridology, Trace Elements, as well as a supervisor for students in the Observation or Imagiology Internship, Observation Techniques, and Therapeutic Psychology (3rd year). I also supervise students in clinical work and professional internships (4th year). I have been holding this position for several years.

I would like to emphasize that I have provided natural medicine therapeutic care to the public in various clinics in mainland Portugal and the islands. In addition to the aforementioned, my therapeutic offerings also include SCIO (International Licensed Quantum Biofeedback Therapist), thereby forming an integrative concept of preventive medicine available for Health and its Homeostasis.

In May 2020, I was invited to publish an article in a French scientific magazine on the topic: “Recognition of Naturopathy – The Portuguese Example.” This article was subsequently translated and published in Portugal in the Espaço Aberto magazine in August 2020, and more recently published within the Naturopath community in Brazil.

Finally, I have been a guest speaker on several podcasts in Portugal and abroad (on international web radio programs) to discuss Health and Natural Medicine. I also host a weekly podcast on these topics called “Embondeiro” on Spotify and the YouTube channel (Embondeiro Podcast).
